Hi there!
I’m so glad you stopped by.
Let me introduce myself. I’m Lisa, a nutritional med undergrad, wife, plant and fur mum, ‘cyster’, recipe developer, food stylist and main gal behind My Simple Plate.
We’re always told to not play with our food. I broke that rule because not only do I love spending my time in the kitchen creating something new using beautiful wholesome ingredients, I also love styling and photographing it too. I love putting into practice everything I’m learning and can’t wait to share my knowledge with you too!
Studying nutrition has been one of the best things I have ever done. I now have the tools and knowledge to help those around me be as healthy as they can be!
I’ve always had a passion for health and food – even if sometimes it was a little skewed (ah those pesky teenage years – right?). After many years struggling with different issues, my health really plummeted in November 2017, when I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Insulin Resistance. This diagnosis shook me to my core, as I couldn’t understand how someone who had a pretty healthy diet and exercised daily could be diagnosed with such a condition. Well in no time I put my researchers hat on and found out as much as I could about the condition. I’m happy to say that in just over 12 months I have naturally reversed a majority of my symptoms, regulated my cycle and lost weight!
My diagnosis and all that I learnt in just a few short months launched me on the journey I’m on now. I started studying Nutritional Medicine and have never looked back. Now, I’m lucky enough to share my knowledge with you in the hope to help others start to feel better and begin to live their best life!
I’m not about “diets” – fads or otherwise, but I do believe that each of our bodies respond to different ways of eating. So for me personally, I prefer a paleo/low carb way of life. While my bff loves and thrives off a Vegan lifestyle. We are all individuals and our bodies are unique and will thrive when we treat them with respect and nourish them with the right foods.
Life is too short for restrictive diets and food guilt! Time and time again, they have been proven not to work and cause more stress on our bodies and mental health than anything else.
So, if you’re looking for the newest fad for losing weight – sorry to disappoint you, but you won’t find it here! Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be hard work and I’ve created this blog to help and guide you on your own journey to health.
I am all about helping you make positive lifestyle changes that will last, while making healthy food simple, delicious and fun. My recipes are nourishing and easily adaptable for allergies as I, myself am gluten and lactose intolerant.
We live in a time where we’re all busy – and that’s fine. If I could offer you one piece of advice right now, it would be to start simple and start small by making one change a month. It could be as simple as making sure you start drinking 2 Litres of water a day.
Too easy! Right? By implementing small changes like this, you will build habits which you know you can stick too and eventually this will become a normal part of your lifestyle. The one thing to remember is don’t beat yourself up if you don’t drink enough water, skip a day at the gym or eat that piece of cake. It is not going to ruin your life or make you gain weight! Take a breath, review your personal goals and needs and most importantly, listen to your body. Once you tune into it, you will find it is always listening and guiding you to what it needs.
In saying all of this, changing your lifestyle won’t happen overnight. It is a gradual process. I totally get that changing your current habits can be hard, especially when trying to navigate your way through the minefield of nutrition information (and misinformation) on the internet. So let me help you! Living a healthy lifestyle and eating wholefoods doesn’t need to be boring or complicated. I have a realistic approach to health and wellness and by developing simple wholesome recipes, I hope you can start to implement new gradual processes for lasting change.
I’d love to hear more about you and your journey to health! So make sure you connect with me on social media and sign up to my mailing list for all of my delicious recipes, healthy hacks, latest blog posts and more straight to your inbox.
Have the best day,
